Churn rate is the percentage of customers who stop buying from you, or cancel a subscription, in a given period. In subscription businesses it is the share of subscribers who cancel. In one-off purchase stores, it is usually defined as customers who have not bought within an expected window.
Reducing churn is typically cheaper than acquiring new customers, which is why retention marketing and win-back campaigns matter.
