Consent that does not slow your store or erase your conversions

I tune how the CMP and tags load so your WooCommerce store stays fast and your measurement stays useful, without overriding the visitor's choice.

In short

Performance-safe consent means respecting the visitor's choice without hurting page speed or data quality. I deal with the CMP's impact on Core Web Vitals, conflicts with caching and JavaScript optimisation plugins, and options such as Consent Mode advanced mode and server-side tagging. It is for WooCommerce stores that have implemented consent and noticed the site getting slower or the numbers dropping.

When consent becomes expensive

  • A notice that shifts the page

The consent notice appears late and pushes content down, or is itself the largest visible element, hurting CLS and LCP.

  • Cache plugins that break consent

Settings that delay or combine JavaScript postpone the CMP or the tags, so consent is no longer read in time.

  • Measurement falling for no clear reason

Conversions dropped after the notice went live, and it is unclear how much is genuine refusal and how much is technical error.

How I balance speed, data and consent

I measure before changing anything: load speed, Core Web Vitals and conversion data with and without consent. Then I adjust how the CMP and tags load and assess, with you, options that recover measurement legitimately.

  • A speed and conversion baseline before any change
  • CMP and tag loading tuned to your theme and cache plugin
  • Exclusions set up in JavaScript optimisation settings
  • An assessment of Consent Mode advanced mode and server-side tagging

What you get

  • Impact diagnosis

Speed and Core Web Vitals measurements with and without the CMP, and what weighs most.

  • Loading configuration

The CMP and tags loading in the right order, with exclusions applied in your cache or optimisation plugin.

  • A notice without layout shifts

The consent notice adjusted so it does not shift content or block reading of the page.

  • Measurement loss analysis

Expected loss from refusals separated from loss caused by errors, with the errors fixed.

  • Next-step recommendation

An assessment of options such as advanced mode or server-side tagging, with pros, cons and privacy implications.

How the work runs

  1. Baseline

I record current speed, Core Web Vitals and conversion data so there is something to compare against.

  2. Diagnosis

I identify what the CMP, tags and optimisation plugins do to page loading and to reading consent.

  3. Adjustments

I fix load order, exclusions and the notice, testing on desktop and mobile.

  4. Comparison

I measure again, compare with the baseline and explain what changed and what could still improve.

Does a CMP really slow the store down?

Any extra script has some cost, and the impact depends on the CMP, how it loads and the theme. Often the bigger problem is not script weight but the notice causing layout shifts or becoming the largest element on the page. I measure before drawing conclusions.

Can I delay the CMP to improve speed?

Delaying the CMP is not advisable, because tags need to know the consent state before they fire. What you can do is load it efficiently and exclude it from optimisations that hold it back. Speed gains have to come from elsewhere.

Does server-side tagging fix data loss?

It does not get around consent, and it should not. It can make data from consenting visitors more reliable and reduce script weight in the browser. I assess with you whether the cost and complexity are justified for your store.

Do you always use Consent Mode advanced mode?

No. Advanced mode lets Google model conversions, but it sends cookieless signals even when consent is denied. The choice depends on your risk position and should be checked with your legal adviser.
