Email copywriting that sounds like your brand and sells

I write the subject lines, body copy and calls to action for your emails in British English and European Portuguese. Clear copy, in your brand’s voice, written for people reading on their phones.

In short

Email copywriting covers the subject line, preview text, body and calls to action of every message. I write for WooCommerce stores selling in Portugal and English-speaking markets that want native copy rather than literal translations. I work on automated flows, campaigns and tone-of-voice guides.

When copy holds results back

  • Subject lines nobody opens

Generic subject lines that could belong to any shop, or ones too long to show in full on a phone screen.

  • Translations that read like translations

Emails written in Portuguese and pushed into English (or the other way round) without adaptation, full of phrasing no native reader would use.

  • Lots of words, little direction

Long paragraphs about the brand and a call to action buried at the bottom. The reader never quite knows what to do next.

How I write

I start by understanding your brand, your customers and the objections that come up most before a purchase. Every email has a single goal, and the copy is built to take the reader to that action without detours.

  • One goal and one main call to action per email
  • Subject line and preview text written together, as a single message
  • Native en-GB and pt-PT versions adapted to each market
  • Alt text on images and a layout that still reads with images switched off

What I can write

  • Email tone-of-voice guide

A short document covering brand tone, words to use and avoid, sample subject lines and formatting rules.

  • Copy for automated flows

Every welcome, abandoned basket, post-purchase and win-back message, written as one coherent sequence.

  • Campaign copy

Subject line, preview text, body and calls to action for launches, seasonal moments and newsletters.

  • Subject line bank

Subject line variants grouped by message type, ready for A/B tests with clear hypotheses.

  • Review of existing emails

A rewrite of the flows and templates you already have live, with notes on what changed and why.

How I work

  1. Brief

I gather information about the brand, audience, products and the questions customer service hears most often.

  2. First draft

I write the copy, noting the goal of each email and offering alternative subject lines to test.

  3. Revisions

I take your feedback and fine-tune tone, product details and key messages.

  4. Delivery and testing

I hand over final copy or build it straight into your platform, and set up the first A/B test to run.

Do you write directly in English or translate from Portuguese?

I write each version from scratch for its market. The message and the offer stay the same, but the way they are expressed is adapted to the Portuguese reader and to the English-speaking reader.

Do certain words in a subject line send emails to spam?

Inbox placement depends mainly on sender reputation, domain authentication and how recipients engage, not on individual words. Even so, I avoid misleading subject lines, excessive capitals and overblown promises, because they erode readers’ trust.

Do you design the emails too?

This service focuses on copy, but I write it with the template it will sit in already in mind. If you also need design and build, that can be included in the campaign or automation service.

How long should an email be?

Long enough to do its job and no longer. A basket reminder might need only a few lines, while a welcome email introducing the brand can justify more. I test and adjust based on how readers actually behave.
