Product and category pages ready for search

I optimise the templates and content of the product and category pages on your WooCommerce store, where most of the organic traffic with purchase intent is decided.

In short

Product and category page optimisation works on the elements that help these pages appear in searches with purchase intent: titles, copy, structure, images, structured data and internal links. I handle both the WooCommerce theme templates and the content rules your team can apply across the whole catalogue. It is for stores whose pages exist in Google but do not show up for the right searches.

What holds product and category pages back

  • Manufacturer descriptions copied across

The same text appears on dozens of stores, and your page offers nothing that justifies ranking ahead of the others.

  • Categories without context

Category pages with only a product grid, no copy, no worked title and no links to relevant subcategories.

  • Variations and out-of-stock items poorly handled

Colour or size variations compete with each other, and out-of-stock products disappear, losing the history and links they had built up.

How I optimise these pages

I work on two tiers: the template, which affects every page at once, and the content, which is optimised by priority. I start with the categories and products that have the most demand and commercial potential, identified from Search Console data and the store itself.

  • Review of the product and category templates in the theme
  • Rules for titles, meta descriptions and headers across the whole catalogue
  • Structured data for product, offers, reviews and breadcrumbs
  • A clear policy for variations, out-of-stock and discontinued products

What you get

  • Template review

Recommendations for the product and category templates: header hierarchy, content blocks, breadcrumbs and internal links.

  • Catalogue content guide

Practical rules for titles, descriptions, category copy and image alt text, with examples.

  • Validated structured data

Product and breadcrumb markup reviewed and tested, with missing fields identified.

  • Priority pages optimised

An agreed set of categories and products optimised as a reference for the rest of the catalogue.

  • Out-of-stock and variation policy

Rules for keeping, redirecting or consolidating pages for out-of-stock, discontinued products and variations.

How the work runs

  1. Page selection

I identify the categories and products with the most demand and commercial potential from Search Console and store data.

  2. Template review

I analyse how the theme builds these pages and define the changes that benefit the whole catalogue.

  3. Reference optimisation

I optimise the priority pages and turn what worked into a guide for your team.

  4. Follow-up

I track how the pages perform in Search Console and refine the guide based on what we learn.

Tools I use

Do I have to rewrite every product description?

No. We start with the pages that have the most demand and potential. The content guide lets your team apply the same rules to the rest of the catalogue progressively, without stopping operations.

What should I do with out-of-stock products?

It depends. If the product will come back into stock, keeping the page with an unavailable notice and links to alternatives is usually better. If it has been discontinued, a 301 redirect to the category or a substitute preserves the value already built up.

Won't category copy hurt conversion?

When done well, no. I place the search-useful copy where it does not get in the way of the product grid, and keep the visual hierarchy focused on buying. The aim is to help people arriving from search understand they are in the right place.

Do template changes affect the store design?

The focus is on the structure and content that search engines read: headers, structured data, links and text blocks. Any visual change is discussed with you and, when needed, done together with the developer or the theme.
